FAQs - about searching

1. How does One Search work?

One Search uses the Ex Libris Primo system to provide access to all of State Library's collections. It allows searching across collections and across numerous online resources at the same time. You can add your own tags, reviews and comments to the records of any State Library resources, as well as saving your favourite records and searches.

Throughout 2009 State Library's digital collections will also be made available through One Search.

What am I Searching? provides more detail on searching our collections using each of the One Search ‘tabs’.

2. Will State Library's previous catalogue still be available?

Yes, you can still search on the previous South Bank collections catalogue. A link is provided on the One Search home page.

3. What do I do if I find an error or have a problem?

Let us know by sending in a feedback form. Your feedback is important to us as we continue to develop One Search.

4. Can I search for State Library's digital resources such as Picture Queensland images in One Search?

Digitised photographs are now available. Discover photographs and posters by limiting your search to 'images' in the Digital resources collection.

5. Can I search for John Oxley library materials such as Finding Aids, manuscripts and other original materials?

All State Library's original materials are now available in One Search. Limit your search to Original Materials to discover Finding Aids to manuscripts, diaries and much more.

6. How can I search within a finding aid.

Finding aids can be very long but it's easy to search for your keyword/s within the finding aid.

Check Manuscripts Queensland - FAQ for more information about finding aids.

7. How do I request an item?

E-services members are able to request items by clicking on any of the 'Available' links or on the location details. This will open a holdings form and from this form you can make a request. More information is available in the file, "How to request a closed access item in One Search".

8. How do I save a search?

You must be signed in to save a search. There is a link on the right hand side of the orange 'Results' bar, that will allow you to save your searches.

9. Why can't I open the full record display in Safari or Internet Explorer 6 (IE 6)?

This is a known issue with the Safari browser which should be resolved by Ex Libris in the near future. In the meantime, you are able to access the full details of a record if you store that record. Click on the 'Store this record' check box in the results display, open your Store and the full record will display.
If you are using IE 6 you should use the view optimised for this browser. This link is in the 'About One Search' section immediately below the search area.

10. Why have I received an error message when I use URLs like http://enc.slq.qld.gov.au/logicrouter? etc etc?

You have followed a link to the former Queensland Digital Library or digital content from it. The Queensland Digital Library has moved.

You can now search for its contents through the One Search online catalogue. Please update your bookmark or web site links.

FAQs - about printing

1. How do I print images using the least amount of paper?

These instructions will help you print images of photographs and of works of art using the least amount of paper. This is a workaround solution while we work with our supplier to resolve printing problems.

One Search FAQs - about file formats

1. How can I play the MP4 files on my computer?

You can watch and listen to MP4 files using any video/music player that supports MP4. Here are some examples of free MP4 players - QuickTime Player, foobar2000, iTunes, VLC Media Player. The Open Directory Project has a big list of MP4 players.

2. Why do the videos appear too large or too small when I play them in Windows Media Player?

You might have to optimise the video size. To do this, open a video file, eg., a Windows Media Video (WMV) file, in the player, right click on the Windows Media Player and select “Video Size”, then “View”, then “100%”. This file should then be displayed at the optimal size.
